And Then She Was One...

Yes, that's right. My little baby is now a one-year old. We celebrated her first birthday last week and my last baby is no longer officially a baby. *sniff*

My initial birthday plan was to do nothing much more than cut a cake and carry on with the rest of the day as usual. But the big brother would not hear of it - the little sister had to have a birthday party with presents, streamers, balloons and a chocolate cake. That, combined with the fact that my my mom flew over from Jaipur just for the occasion, changed my mind so we had a small little do at the house with some friends and their kids.

It was nice, relaxed evening with old friends. We chatted about this and that while the four kids (ranging from just-turned-one to five and a half) pretty much ignored each other and did their own thing. The food was uncomplicated too - the chocolate cake, mini-quiches and mini-tarts were outsourced, there was a running supply of potato chips for the kids and my maid whipped up some hot, fresh pakoras for the adults.

My mom took charge of the decor and Jai was in charge of photography, which explains why there isn't a single decent shot of the birthday girl. :)

Hey Ro! Belated birthday greetings to the little one. So she's finally one!! It sure brings up mixed feelings (at least it did for me when U turned one:)) And that's a lovely family pic as well.
We subscribed to the same idea of smaller the better as far as celebrations went for U's birthday as well. And it seems the best route at this age. Hugs and kisses to the birthday gal:)

  3. Oh cool! Happy happy birthday to Tarana! I think small parties work better for small people :)

LOL at the photography observation. The pitifully few pix I am present in, my kids are gonna think mom was just never around in their lives. Hmpf!

    P.S. You look totally hot!!!

  10. Happy 1st Birthday to Tarana. It sure does seem like yesterday when you made the birth announcement and now she's 1 already! Time flies.

Glad you all had a nice time - stressfree - which most bday parties aren't for the parents. And I totally get you on the bday pics bit :)

  12. OK, you've gotten through the first party, are you ready for the second party? I find the 1st is the most stressful and it get easier as the get older until the first true "kids party" then look out.

  20. Wow she's one already, time sure does fly! Wish her a very very happy birthday from Nikki and me and hope she has a wonderful year ahead!
And I still insist on thinking of Nikki as my 'baby' even when she's nearly 19 months old now. I have the 'baby on board' sign on my car and refuse to turn it around to 'child on board' despite several not-so-veiled hints from the husband.

  30. Wow, it looks like it was so long ago, when I read on Sue/ MM's blog on the arrival of a new baby. I was pregnant with Advait and was looking forward to one soon to land in my hands. Time flies! My kid's turned 7 mo old already!

    Many wishes to Tarana!

  31. Happy birthday Tarana. I am 8 days older than you and hope that we can meet some day and hang out together - love, Kavya.

  32. really.....I mean baby T is already a big girl. hap, hap, happy b'day to the darling. May God bless her.

  33. Thanks for the wishes {and the compliments :)}. I share your sense of shock and awe at one year having zoomed by so fast!!!

Rohini - Hi. Thanks for dropping by.

Starry - Seriously! There are some 5 pictures of me in the last year!

Obsessivemom - You have challenged me! Now I am going to post the pictures just to show how bad they are :)

[NMOTB] I know what you mean. I am finding it hard to find my baby in the other, enormous five-year old I have :)

Dale - Second one will probably be similar. They only really cotton on to the birthday party idea at 3 so no point in breaking your back before that.

[Lawyeramma] Happy bleated birthday, Kavya! Nope, Tarana is not walking yet without support - think it will be a few more months because of the w-sitting. She talks a lot but mostly still babble. How about Kavya?

  36. I so, so, soooooo sympathise with you over the not having decent snaps of the birthday kids. This time at the EO's party, very few snaps were clicked, and the precious few that were, turned out to be blurry, out-of-focus, too dark or without the birthday boy!! Aaaargh!

Lots and lots of hugs and kisses to your beautiful little girl!
